How to avoid late payment fees
Late payment fees are charged if you miss your repayment date or pay less than the minimum amount. To help avoid this, set a reminder in your calendar for your regular repayment date to ensure payments are made on time. Alternatively you can also set up an automatic direct debit for your monthly credit card payment. You can select to make the full repayment, minimum repayment or a set dollar amount.
How to avoid transaction fees
You can incur transaction fees with your InterestME Account when you use ATM's, Bank@Post or exceed the 15 free EFTPOS transactions per month.
Use your 15 free monthly EFTPOS transactions to take out extra cash when you make purchases and save on ATM fees. Using Phone and Internet Banking to transfer money to other people and pay your bills can help you avoid these fees and save time too.
How to avoid ATM operator fees
ATM Operator Fees are incurred when you use an ATM that is not an ME Bank, Westpac, St.George or BankSA ATM. This fee is charged by the ATM owner for using their machine.
You can save money by withdrawing cash from ME Bank, Westpac, St George and BankSA ATMs (except machines at BP Petrol Stations). You will not be charged an ATM Operator Fee at these machines. But don't forget these transactions do attract a $1 ME Bank ATM fee which is charged to your account at the end of the month.
How to avoid dishonour fees
A direct entry dishonour fee is incurred when there are insufficient funds in your InterestME Account to cover direct debit payments you have arranged such as bills or loan repayments.
Avoid these fees by knowing your monthly outgoings. Keep track of expected debits so that you can ensure there are enough funds in your account when a payment is due and always know how much is in your account.
How to avoid cheque dishonour fees
A cheque dishonour fee is charged when you issue a cheque and it is dishonoured due to insufficient funds.
Ensure you always have available funds in your account if a cheque you have written has not yet been withdrawn. You can check this for free in Internet Banking.
With a little planning you can operate your InterestME Account bank fee free.
